Modeling Landscape Evapotranspiration by Integrating Land Surface Phenology and a Water Balance Algorithm

چکیده

The main objective of this study is to present an improved modeling technique called Vegetation ET (VegET) that integrates commonly used water balance algorithms with remotely sensed Land Surface Phenology (LSP) parameter to conduct operational vegetation water balance modeling of rainfed systems at the LSP’s spatial scale using readily available global data sets. Evaluation of the VegET model was conducted using Flux Tower data and two-year simulation for the conterminous US. The VegET model is capable of estimating actual evapotranspiration (ETa) of rainfed crops and other vegetation types at the spatial resolution of the LSP on a daily basis, replacing the need to estimate cropand region-specific crop coefficients.

Modeling of vegetation dynamics in hydrological models for the assessment of the effects of climate change on evapotranspiration and groundwater recharge

Vegetation affects water balance of the land surface by e.g. storage of precipitation water in the canopy and soil water extraction by transpiration. Therefore, it is essential to consider the role of vegetation in affecting water balance by taking into account the temporal dynamics of e.g. leaf area index, rooting depth and stomatal conductance in hydrological models. However until now, most c...

Irrigation Scheduling Using Remote Sensing Data Assimilation Approach

Remote sensing and crop growth models have enhanced our ability to understand soil water balance in irrigated agriculture. However, limited efforts have been made to adopt data assimilation methodologies in these linked models that use stochastic parameter estimation with genetic algorithm (GA) to improve irrigation scheduling. In this study, an innovative irrigation scheduling technique, based...

Regional estimation of daily to annual regional evapotranspiration with MODIS data in the Yellow River Delta wetland

Evapotranspiration (ET) from the wetland of the Yellow River Delta (YRD) is one of the important components in the water cycle, which represents the water consumption by the plants and evaporation from the water and the non-vegetated surfaces. Reliable estimates of the total evapotranspiration from the wetland is useful information both for understanding the hydrological process and for water m...

Evapotranspiration estimation based on the SEBAL model in the Nansi Lake Wetland of China

As a major component of the water budget of a wetland, evaporation has proven difficult to measure evapotranspiration accurately. This paper developed a scheme to assess actual evapotranspiration (ETa) across a range of land uses in Nansi Lake Wetland, China, using a remote sensing technique and the Surface Energy Balance Algorithm for Land (SEBAL) model. The estimation of pixel-scaled ETa was ...

Distribution of Actual Evapotranspiration over Qaidam Basin, an Arid Area in China

Evapotranspiration is a major loss flux of the water balance in arid and semi-arid areas. The estimation of actual evapotranspiration has significance for hydrological and environmental purposes. The Surface Energy Balance System (SEBS) algorithm was applied to estimate actual evapotranspiration in the Qaidam Basin and its eight hydrological sub-regions, Northwest China. There were 3,036 cloud-...
